The Ministry of Fisheries Agriculture and Ocean Resources has officially opened nominations for the special awards to be presented at the official ceremony celebrating the 46th National Fishermen's Day in Male'.
The government is inviting applications and nominations for outstanding individuals across four distinct categories. In a significant update to this year's program, the Ministry has newly introduced a special award dedicated exclusively to women in the fishing industry, aiming to recognize and honor the invaluable contributions of female fishers to the sector.
According to the Ministry, the award categories open for submission this year include the Most Service-Oriented Young Fisher Master award, dedicated to active captains under the age of 35 whose sole primary source of income is derived directly from fishing operations. Similarly, the Most Experienced Fisher Master award honors veteran captains aged 35 and above who remain actively engaged in the field and rely exclusively on fishing for their livelihood.
