The Kolhumadulu Kinbidhoo Council has urged the public to refrain from extracting white sand from the beaches of Kinbidhoo and neighboring Kudadoo.
In a public announcement issuing this appeal, the Kinbidhoo Council stated that it has observed ongoing sand extraction along the beaches of Kinbidhoo and Kudadoo. The council noted that it has also been receiving continuous concerns and complaints regarding this practice from local residents.
Highlighting that beach sand mining directly leads to coastal erosion and damages the natural beauty and environment of the islands, the Kinbidhoo Council emphasized that this practice is strictly prohibited by law. Consequently, the council urged the public not to extract sand anywhere within 200 meters into the lagoon from the island’s vegetation line.
The Kinbidhoo Council further warned that legal action will be taken against anyone found violating this directive by illegally taking sand from the beaches or lagoon areas.
