Concrete ramp construction works are currently underway as part of the N. Kendhikulhudhoo harbor upgrade and boat beaching area project, with overall progress reaching 35 percent, contractor Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) confirmed.
Awarded by the Government of Maldives in March 2023 for MVR 73.16 million, the design-and-build project aims to resolve long-standing access limitations for local boat owners and upgrade island maritime infrastructure.
According to the latest project report, the broad scope of works includes 98,099 cubic meters of harbor dredging, construction of a 249-meter quay wall, a 368-meter breakwater, a 130-meter revetment, a 27-meter groyne, an 86-meter jetty, and an access platform. The project also features 1,990 square meters of paved harbor surfaces equipped with lighting, drainage, navigational aids, and mooring buoys.
The addition of a dedicated boat beaching area and ramp will streamline vessel retrieval and maintenance, improving operational safety for local fishermen and commercial vessel operators across the island.
