The unfiltered voices of Maldivian fishers are taking center stage on the big screen tomorrow in a powerful new documentary addressing the frontlines of ocean change.
Roadhi: Voice of Fisherfolks Across the Maldives will officially premiere on Thursday, 1 October 2026, at the iconic Olympus Theatre in Malé, running from 16:00 to 17:00. Organized by the marine conservation initiative Maldives Resilient Reefs, the screening is completely free and open to the public, with complimentary popcorn and drinks provided for attendees.
For generations, the heartbeat of the Maldivian fisheries sector has relied on the traditional knowledge of its fishers. Now, Roadhi brings their firsthand stories, anxieties, and urgent warnings directly to the public. The film captures the rapid ecological changes fishers are witnessing daily out at sea, the mounting economic and environmental hurdles facing the local industry, and what these shifts mean for the future of the nation’s historic pole-and-line trade.
Local fishers, industry stakeholders, and seafood enthusiasts are strongly encouraged to attend this vital screening to support the community and join the conversation on safeguarding the Maldives' most cherished livelihood.
