The HA. Ihavandhoo Council has officially launched maritime vessel licensing services under a newly enacted regulatory framework, establishing transparent procedures and fee structures for operators in the region.
According to the HA. Ihavandhoo Council, the "Regulation on Provision of Maritime Licensing Services and Fee Collection" was formally passed during the 19th official general meeting of the council's 5th term. Following its publication in the Government Gazette, the council officially commenced issuing maritime vessel licenses yesterday, September 29, 2026.
Under the published regulation, practical examinations for maritime licenses will be conducted on designated dates determined by the council administration. Applicants are required to present themselves at the exam venue at the exact date and time communicated directly by the council using the contact number provided on their application form. All payments associated with the licensing process will be processed exclusively online.
The schedule of fees outlines a rate of MVR 250 for issuing new licenses. Renewals, re-issuances due to loss or damage, and re-issuances for expired or modified licenses are also set at MVR 250. Furthermore, applications incur an examination fee of MVR 100, which includes an MVR 30 license examiner fee, alongside an MVR 75 council service fee. The fee for issuing a maritime license to foreign nationals is set at MVR 2,500.
The HA. Ihavandhoo Council highlighted that establishing this regulated service framework will streamline local licensing operations, improve administrative efficiency, and provide convenient, reliable services for vessel operators across the northern region.
