Minister of Fisheries, Agriculture and Ocean Resources Ahmed Shiyam met yesterday with Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Representative Vimlendra Sharan at the ministry in Malé to map out joint financial and policy frameworks for the nation's primary food sectors.
The high-level meeting took place during Mr. Sharan’s official visit to the Maldives to inaugurate the project "A Holistic Approach to Agricultural Food Systems Resilience and Adaptation."
The session focused directly on ongoing collaborative initiatives and active resource mobilization efforts aimed at securing capital and technical backing for the fisheries, agriculture, and aquaculture sectors. Minister Shiyam and Mr. Sharan reviewed strategic financing mechanisms to build long-term sector resilience, safeguard coastal livelihoods, and protect national food security against severe weather events and global market volatility.
Both parties reaffirmed the shared commitment of the Government of Maldives and the FAO to advancing sustainable development through targeted investments, institutional coordination, and international partnerships.
The talks were attended by Minister Ahmed Shiyam, top officials from the Ministry of Fisheries, Agriculture and Ocean Resources, and members of the visiting FAO delegation.
