Deputy Minister of Ministry of Fisheries Agriculture and Ocean Resoirces, Zameer Mohamed has represented the Maldives at the 2026 Global Ocean Development Forum, held in Qingdao, Shandong Province, China.
According to the Ministry of Fisheries, Agriculture and Ocean Resources, the Deputy Minister took part in high-level discussions aimed at strengthening international marine cooperation and advancing sustainable ocean development.
The event, officially organized as the Ocean Cooperation and Development Forum, convened from September 16 to 18 in the Qingdao West Coast New Area. Co-hosted by China’s Ministry of Natural Resources and the Shandong Provincial People’s Government, the international summit operated under the core theme "From Blue Ocean to the Future: Developing a Sustainable Ocean Economy."
The 2026 summit brought together approximately 680 delegates, including nearly 200 overseas guests and representatives from 12 global ocean organizations. Discussions across the three-day agenda focused on deep-sea industrial development, green maritime transport, AI-driven oceanographic management, and blue finance mechanisms to support sustainable marine supply chains.
For the Maldives, participation in the forum reinforces ongoing multilateral engagement on marine conservation, climate resilience, and sustainable blue economy frameworks critical to low-lying island nations.
