The Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) has updated its nationwide fish purchasing prices, keeping the skipjack tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis) buying rate at R. Maduvvaree Harbor at MVR 20 per kilogram for consecutive days, according to its latest Public Price Bulletin.
While MIFCO maintained a rate of MVR 21 per kilogram across its other primary processing facilities and regional collection harbors, R. Maduvvaree Harbor remains the sole location where skipjack tuna is purchased at MVR 20 per kilogram. This marks Maduvvaree as the only harbor where the price has dropped and stayed lower since the nationwide increase to MVR 21 took effect in late August.
According to the latest price bulletin:
Felivaru Fisheries Complex, Kooddoo Fisheries Complex, Addu Fisheries Complex, GDh. Thinadhoo, HA. Ihavandhoo, and M. Mulah Harbour: Skipjack tuna at MVR 21 per kilogram
R. Maduvvaree Harbor: Skipjack tuna sustained at MVR 20 per kilogram
Despite the difference in skipjack tuna rates, MIFCO has kept its purchasing prices for large yellowfin tuna consistent nationwide:
Large Yellowfin Tuna (10–15 kg): Maintained uniformly at MVR 20 per kilogram across all locations, including Maduvvaree.
Large Yellowfin Tuna (15+ kg): Maintained uniformly at MVR 25 per kilogram across all locations.
MIFCO’s purchasing price for skipjack tuna has undergone several revisions over the past few months. After dropping to a low of MVR 17 per kilogram in early June 2026, the company introduced phased upward adjustments, raising the rate to MVR 18.50 per kilogram on June 8 and to MVR 20 per kilogram on June 14. That price held steady until August 29, 2026, when MIFCO implemented a nationwide hike to MVR 21 per kilogram across its primary facilities and collection network.
