Nationwide White Alert Extended Until 20:00 Tonight

The Maldives Meteorological Service (Met Office) has extended the nationwide White Alert until 20:00 tonight as adverse weather conditions continue across the country.

The weather alert was initially issued from 09:30 to 14:00 today. However, with heavy weather persisting, the Met Office extended the advisory from 14:00 to 20:00. During this period, heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected across the country, with wind gusts reaching up to 40 mph.

According to the general 24-hour forecast, rain and thunderstorms are likely across various regions, with torrential downpours expected in some islands. Winds will blow from the southwest and west at speeds between 15 and 23 mph.

Seas are expected to remain generally rough, with wave heights between 4 and 7 feet. The Met Office strongly advises the public, especially seafarers, to exercise caution and take all necessary safety precautions before traveling.
