The HA. Dhidhdhoo Council has held discussions regarding the allocation of a land plot exceeding 7,000 square feet in the island's northern harbor area to Fuel Supplies Maldives (FSM) to store and commercially distribute fuel.
FSM Managing Director Fathimath Ashan attended the meeting held between the Dhidhdhoo Council and the company last Thursday.
During the discussion, the council stated that the plot exceeding 7,000 square feet in the harbor's northern zone has been designated to establish a fuel shed or fuel skid system, sharing the site map with FSM. The council also requested that FSM construct a fuel storage facility with the maximum achievable capacity on the land.
Following the meeting, the FSM team visited the earmarked site to inspect the area and assess on-ground conditions firsthand.
The Dhidhdhoo project forms part of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s nationwide initiative to eliminate longstanding fuel price disparities between the Greater Malé region and the outer atolls. Overseen by the State Trading Organisation (STO) alongside FSM, the program ensures diesel and petrol are sold at standard STO base rates on at least one designated island across every administrative atoll.
The deployment of these modular fuel facilities eliminates regional transport markups, lowering operational overhead for local fishermen and island consumers. Substantial progress has brought the initiative close to nationwide completion, with only Thaa (Th.) and Laamu (L.) atolls pending final commissioning of their dedicated base-rate facilities.
