The Ministry of Fisheries, Agriculture and Ocean Resources has deployed a new pole-and-line Fish Aggregating Device (FAD) off S. Hithadhoo, Addu City.
According to the Ministry, the FAD—bearing identification number R08D01—was installed today, 13 September 2026, positioned 13 miles northwest of Hithadhoo.
A specialized technical team from the Ministry is currently stationed in Addu carrying out installations and essential maintenance. Yesterday, the team also deployed FAD R09D01-03 roughly 15 miles east of S. Villingili.
Local fishermen across Addu expressed satisfaction with the rapid replacement of the cut-off devices, noting that prompt redeployments prevent long-term disruptions to their operations. The consecutive installations are set to substantially benefit southern pole-and-line vessels by cutting scouting times, lowering fuel consumption, and securing access to productive fishing grounds.
The Ministry emphasized that it maintains continuous surveillance and routine upkeep across the nationwide FAD network to address vessel damage or drifting devices and ensure stable support for the fishing community.
