The Maldives Meteorological Service (Met Office) has issued a nationwide White Alert warning of worsening weather conditions across the country.
The advisory remains in effect today from 09:30 to 14:00 hrs. According to the agency, heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected throughout the Maldives during this window, with squalls potentially reaching 40 mph.
In its 24-hour national forecast valid from 10:00 hrs today until 10:00 hrs tomorrow, the Met Office noted that scattered showers and thunderstorms will persist across various regions, with heavy downpours likely in some islands.
Winds are forecast to blow from the southwest and west at 15 to 23 mph, with gusts reaching up to 40 mph. Seas are expected to remain rough, with wave heights running between 4 and 7 feet.
Given the anticipated rough seas and strong wind gusts, authorities have urged everyone—particularly seafarers and maritime vessel operators—to exercise caution and closely track updated advisories.
