The Ministry of Fisheries, Agriculture and Ocean Resources has deployed a new pole-and-line Fish Aggregating Device (FAD) 15 miles east of S. Villingili.
According to the Ministry, the FAD—bearing identification number R09D01-03—was installed on Saturday, 12 September 2026. The installation aims to facilitate better fishing grounds and support pole-and-line tuna fishing vessels operating across the southern region.
The deployment will offer significant advantages to local fishing crews active around Addu Atoll, cutting scouting times and improving vessel efficiency. The Ministry continues routine maintenance and replacements across the national FAD network to support local fisheries and maintain stable fish aggregation points.
