MNDF Urges Seafarers to Exercise Caution Amid Severe Weather Forecast

The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has advised seafarers and vessel operators to exercise heightened vigilance following forecasts by the Maldives Meteorological Service predicting strong winds, rough seas, and heavy rainfall across the country.

The MNDF urged mariners to take all necessary safety precautions, emphasizing that voyages should only begin after informing the relevant authorities. Operators must verify that all essential safety equipment—including life jackets, reliable communication systems, and functional bilge pumps—are onboard and in proper working order before departing.

Additionally, cargo vessel operators have been reminded strictly not to exceed their vessels' certified carrying capacities and to ensure that all cargo is securely lashed and properly arranged before setting sail.

The MNDF also appealed to all passengers and crew members to wear life jackets while underway. Organizers of diving and water-sports activities have been urged to closely monitor changing weather conditions and to completely halt all marine excursions whenever Yellow or Orange weather alerts are issued by the National Meteorological Service.
