A pole-and-line Fish Aggregating Device (FAD) that was previously cut adrift off the coast of Gaafu Alifu Atoll Dhaandhoo has been replaced and re-anchored today.

According to the Ministry of Fisheries, Agriculture, and Ocean Resources, the pole-and-line FAD (bearing identification code "O10D02-01") was deployed today, September 8, 2026. The buoy was anchored at a position 16 nautical miles east of GA. Dhaandhoo.

The national network of anchored FADs remains a critical operational resource maintained by the government to improve catch efficiency and reduce fuel expenditures for local pole-and-line fishing vessels. The Ministry continues routine monitoring and deployment operations to swiftly replace units severed or lost due to adverse weather and sea conditions.
