LCV capsizes off K. Gaafaru west

The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Malé Area Command Coast Guard Second Squadron has launched a search and rescue operation following an incident where a landing craft (LCV) capsized in the open waters west of K. Gaafaru.

At the time of the incident, there were 10 crew members on board the vessel. Out of the 10, 8 crew members have been rescued, while authorities are actively searching for 2 missing foreign crew members.

The MNDF Coast Guard has been working continuously to locate the two missing individuals since the incident occurred, with additional support being provided by the Maldives Police Service. The capsized LCV is currently grounded on the reef of K. Gaafaru.

Weather Advisory Issued

With the Southwest Monsoon currently active across the Maldives, the Maldives Meteorological Service has forecasted strong winds, rough seas, and heavy rain in various areas.

In light of these conditions, authorities strongly urge all seafarers and individuals traveling by sea to exercise extreme caution and prioritize safety.
