The Ministry of Fisheries, Agriculture and Ocean Resources has opened nine scholarship opportunities for Maldivian citizens to pursue fully funded higher education programs in fisheries and marine sciences abroad.
Facilitated under the Transforming Fisheries Management in South West Indian Ocean Region and Maldives Project, the initiative offers two undergraduate degrees, six postgraduate degrees, and one doctoral program to build national capacity in the maritime sector.
Eligible study fields span critical areas including aquaculture, fisheries management, maritime affairs, marine science, aquatic health, and pathology, with placements available in Asia, the Southwest Indian Ocean region, and member countries of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.
Selected candidates will receive comprehensive financial support encompassing course fees, monthly stipends, and allowances for books, establishment, and departure.
Applicants for bachelor's degrees require specified passing grades in standard secondary and higher secondary examinations, while master's candidates must hold a relevant undergraduate degree and two years of professional experience, with priority given to existing personnel of the Ministry.
Interested candidates must submit their applications to the Project Management Unit at H. Palmira or via email to transform@fishagriocean.gov.mv before 12:00 on July 30, 2026.
Upon successful completion of their studies, graduates will be bonded to serve the Ministry in accordance with Maldives Civil Service regulations, requiring the release of any prior institutional bonds before acceptance.
