The body of Zakariyya Mohamed, who went missing while traveling alone in a small dinghy from GDh. Gadhdhoo to Gan in the same atoll, has been found washed ashore on Gan.
The body of 75-year-old Zakariyya was found washed up on the beach of Gan. The incident was reported to the police at around 11:45 am today. The body was discovered three days after the search began.
In the joint operation conducted by the military and police to find Zakariyya, the MNDF Southern Area Coast Guard searched the outer sea area and the uninhabited islands near Gan. The military searched a large area of 2,307.99 square nautical miles by sea and 3,039 square nautical miles by air to find him. During the second dive conducted jointly by the military and police yesterday morning, the dinghy he was traveling in was found 10 meters underwater in the channel between GDh. Gadhdhoo and Gan.
Zakariyya departed from Gadhdhoo at around 09:30 am on the 10th of this month. He was reported missing to the police at around 17:05 pm that evening after no news was heard from him.
