Yellow alert issued for Raa Atoll due to expected rough seas

The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has issued a yellow alert for Raa Atoll, forecasting rough seas and strong winds.

The alert recently issued by the MET Office states that heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected in Raa Atoll, with winds gusting up to 45 mph during showers, and rough seas. The alert is valid until 11:00 pm tonight.

Among the northern atolls, a white alert is currently issued for Shaviyani, Noonu, Baa, and Lhaviyani atolls. Issued until 12:30 am tonight, the MET Office stated that heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected in these atolls during the alert period.

Forecasting the weather until 10:00 am tomorrow morning, the MET Office stated that rain is expected in various parts of the Maldives, and heavy rain with thunderstorms is likely in some islands. Winds are expected to blow from the northeast and east at speeds between 06 mph and 16 mph. The MET Office also stated that winds may gust up to approximately 35 mph during showers.

Seas are expected to be generally moderate, becoming rough during showers. Wave heights are estimated to be between 3 to 6 feet.
