Yellow alert issued for northern atolls extended

The Maldives Meteorological Service has extended the yellow alert issued this afternoon for all northern atolls, forecasting strong winds and rough seas.

The white alert issued by the Maldives Meteorological Service for the northern atolls from 02:00 pm to 06:00 pm stated that winds are expected to blow between 25 to 30 miles per hour in these atolls. Furthermore, the Maldives Meteorological Service forecasts that winds may gust up to 45 miles per hour during showers, resulting in rough seas.

Upon the expiration of the alert issued in the afternoon, the Maldives Meteorological Service has extended the alert until 08:30 pm tonight based on the weather forecast.

Forecasting the weather for the next 24 hours, the Maldives Meteorological Service stated that rain is expected in various areas, with heavy rain and thunderstorms likely in some islands. Winds are generally expected to blow from the southwest and west at speeds between 15 to 25 miles per hour, and may gust up to approximately 45 miles per hour during showers.

It was stated that seas will generally be rough across all areas, with wave heights expected to be between 4 to 7 feet.

Due to the bad weather, the Maldives Meteorological Service has urged all parties to be cautious of the weather.
