Yellow alert issued for a large area due to expected strong winds

A yellow alert has been issued for a large area due to expected strong winds.

The National Meteorological Service issued the yellow alert from HA. Atoll to N. Atoll at 09:30 tonight. The alert, effective until 01:30 midnight, was issued forecasting winds between 25 to 30 miles per hour, with gusts up to 45 miles per hour, and rough seas.

A white alert is currently in effect for the rest of the atolls in the Maldives. The white alert for these atolls, effective from 07:30 tonight to 01:30 midnight, was issued forecasting winds between 19 to 24 miles per hour, with gusts up to 40 miles per hour, and rough seas.

According to the Met Office, rain is expected over a large part of the Maldives tonight. The agency also stated that heavy rain and thunderstorms are likely in some islands.

While seas are expected to be rough across all areas tonight, the Met Office warned that tidal swells may affect some islands during high tide. Wave heights are estimated to be between 5 to 8 feet.

With weather alerts issued for all areas of the Maldives, the Met Office has urged everyone to be cautious of the weather.
