Yellow alert extended for some northern and central atolls

The Maldives Meteorological Service has extended the yellow alert issued this morning for all northern atolls and some central atolls, forecasting strong winds and rough seas.

The alert was initially issued from 09:30 am to 01:30 pm for the area between HA. Atoll and Th. Atoll. The alert was issued forecasting winds between 25 mph and 30 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph, and very rough seas.

Upon the expiration of the alert issued in the morning, the Maldives Meteorological Service has extended the alert until 05:30 pm today based on the weather forecast. The extended alert also states that winds are expected to gust up to 50 mph and seas will be very rough.

Forecasting the weather for the next 24 hours, the Maldives Meteorological Service stated that rain is expected in various areas, with heavy showers and thunderstorms likely in some islands. Winds are expected to blow from the southwest and west at speeds between 15 mph and 25 mph. The agency also stated that winds may gust up to approximately 45 mph during showers.

Seas are generally expected to be rough today, with wave heights estimated between 4 to 8 feet.

Due to the bad weather, the Maldives Meteorological Service has urged everyone to be cautious of the weather.
