President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the City Council has given assurances that the project to build the new Male' Fish Market will begin next July.
Speaking at an ongoing press conference at the President's Office, providing updates on the government's projects in the fisheries sector, the President said that the Male' Fish Market project was planned during his tenure as Mayor, but could not proceed at the time due to various reasons. However, the President stated that the government still wants the project to proceed under the supervision of the City Council.
"God willing, I have the assurance, with the government providing all necessary support for it. We want to proceed with the City Council as the client, just as it was signed back then," the President said.
The President said the Council has given assurances that the fish market work will begin in July.
Planned to be built to modern standards as a four-story building, the ground floor of this market is dedicated to the fish market. While the first two floors are dedicated to selling food items, the upper section will have opportunities for other businesses along with food and beverage services, the President had previously stated.
