The contractor of the project, Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), has stated that the Sh. Milandhoo harbour upgrade project is progressing at a fast pace.
Looking at the latest updates of the project, 50% of the work has been completed. The harbour's quay wall has been fully completed, and currently, harbour dredging and revetment works are underway. It is estimated that the completion of these works will increase the safety and utility of the harbour. MTCC stated that the first shipment of large rock boulders required for the project has been brought to the island, and the work of unloading the boulders to the area is currently ongoing.
The Sh. Milandhoo harbour upgrade project was awarded to MTCC by the government on 8 December 2022. This is a project worth a total of 76.44 million Rufiyaa.
Under the agreement of this project, the works MTCC must undertake include:
Re-dredging the previously dredged lagoon area of 17,900 cubic metres
Dredging a new harbour basin area of 72,938 cubic metres
