White Alert issued this morning for 10 atolls extended to 09:30 tonight

The White Alert issued by the National Meteorological Service this morning for 10 atolls, including the Male' area, has been extended to 09:30 tonight.

Predicting heavy rain and thunderstorms, the White Alert was initially issued from HA Atoll to ADh Atoll from 09:00 this morning to 03:00 this afternoon. With the expiration of that alert period, the White Alert for these atolls has now been extended to 09:30 tonight.

The National Meteorological Service stated that rain is expected in various parts of the Maldives today, with showers and thunderstorms likely in some islands. Winds are forecast to blow from the west and northwest at speeds between 5 to 15 miles per hour. The Met Office also stated that winds may gust up to approximately 30 miles per hour during showers.

Seas are generally slight today. However, the Met Office predicts they will become moderately rough during showers. Wave heights are estimated to be between 2 to 5 feet.
