The Maldives Meteorological Service has issued a White Alert for the entire Maldives, anticipating bad weather.
The alert, effective from 08:30 in the morning until 02:00 in the afternoon, states that heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected across all regions of the country. The national meteorological service also predicts winds gusting up to 45 miles per hour during showers.
The meteorological service stated that seas will be rough today, with wave heights reaching 4 to 7 feet.
The Maldives Meteorological Service had previously forecasted that the southwest monsoon would intensify over the Maldivian region, causing rough seas and strong winds, especially in the southern and central atolls, along with rain and potential tidal surges during high tides. Consequently, predicting bad weather from the 13th to the 17th of this month, the agency has urged everyone to be cautious of the weather.
In connection with this, the police have also urged all citizens to be attentive to the weather, take necessary precautions for their own safety, and specifically advised seafarers to heed the weather warnings issued by the Met Office and stay updated with the latest information.
Urging seafarers to pay attention to the weather, the MNDF has advised against making any non-essential sea journeys, and requested those who must travel to give special consideration to the weather. Furthermore, the MNDF has urged people to avoid traveling at night, to postpone journeys until the weather improves if conditions are unfavorable, and to refrain from traveling when the national meteorological service has issued a Yellow or Orange Alert.
