White Alert issued for some northern and central atolls

The National Meteorological Service has issued a White Alert for some northern and central atolls.

The Met Office just issued the White Alert from Baa Atoll to Meemu Atoll. The White Alert is issued from 01:00 pm to 06:00 pm, forecasting heavy rain and thunderstorms for these atolls.

The Met Office stated that rain and thunderstorms are expected across various parts of the Maldives today, with surface winds from the south and southwest at speeds of 5 to 15 miles per hour. Winds may gust up to approximately 30 miles per hour during showers.

Furthermore, seas are expected to be generally slight, becoming moderately rough during showers. Wave heights are estimated to be between 2 to 5 feet.

Due to bad weather, a White Alert was also issued early last night from Haa Alif Atoll to Baa Atoll. The alert was issued forecasting heavy rain, thunderstorms, and wind gusts up to 35 miles per hour in the area.
