White alert issued for some atolls with winds expected to reach 40 mph

A white alert has been issued for some northern and central atolls, with winds expected to reach 40 mph.

The Maldives Meteorological Service just issued the white alert from N. Atoll to Dh. Atoll. The alert is effective from 02:30 pm to 08:30 pm tonight, forecasting heavy rain and thunderstorms in the area. It is also expected that winds will gust up to 40 mph during showers.

The Maldives Meteorological Service stated that as the Northeast Monsoon ends and the Southwest Monsoon begins, rain clouds forming south of the Maldives are observed moving over the southern atolls. Therefore, rain is expected across various parts of the country over the next three days, with heavy rain and thunderstorms likely in some islands. The agency also noted the possibility of strong surface winds and rough seas in some areas.
