A white alert has been issued for the northern atolls due to expected strong winds.

The white alert, covering from HA. Atoll to Lh. Atoll, is effective from 05:45 pm today until 11:00 pm tonight. The alert was issued for the region due to expected heavy rain and thunderstorms. Winds are also expected to gust up to 35 miles per hour during showers.

Forecasting the weather for the Maldives, the Maldives Meteorological Service stated that while some islands may experience showers, the weather will generally be fine. Winds are expected to blow from the southwest and west at speeds between 10 and 20 miles per hour.

Seas are expected to be moderately rough, becoming rough during showers, with wave heights estimated to be between three and six feet.
