White alert issued for northern atolls anticipating strong winds and rough seas

A white alert has been issued for the northern atolls anticipating rough seas.

The white alert issued by the Maldives Meteorological Service for the northern atolls from 03:30 pm today to 08:00 pm tonight states that winds are expected to blow between 19 and 24 miles per hour, with gusts up to 40 miles per hour. Seas are also expected to be rough.

The Maldives Meteorological Service stated that seas will generally be rough across all areas of the Maldives today. Wave heights are estimated to be between 4 to 5 feet. The Met Office also stated that some islands may experience swell waves during high tide.

As rough seas are anticipated, the Met Office has urged seafarers to be cautious of the weather.

Marine Police has also urged caution regarding the weather. Marine Police stated that as the weather is currently bad, they urge everyone to obtain the latest weather information before starting a journey.
