White alert issued for northern atolls anticipating rough seas

A white alert has been issued once again for the northern atolls.

The Maldives Meteorological Service initially issued a white alert for the northern atolls from 06:30 to 12:30 today. At that time, the seasonal white alert was issued anticipating strong winds in the north. The alert was not extended after its expiration time.

Once again, the Maldives Meteorological Service has now issued a white alert for the northern atolls from 15:30 to 21:30 tonight, anticipating winds of 19 to 24 miles per hour and rough seas.

The agency had previously forecasted that the southwest monsoon would intensify in the Maldives region, anticipating strong winds, rough seas, and tidal swells in some northern atolls in the coming days. It also forecasted rain and thunderstorms for some northern islands.

While the southwest monsoon began in the southern atolls on the 7th of this month, the southwest monsoon has now commenced across the entire Maldives. The southwest monsoon began in the northern atolls on the 21st of this month.
