A White Alert has been issued for some atolls in the northern and central Maldives, predicting rough seas.
The White Alert for the region from Baa Atoll to Dhaalu Atoll is effective from 10:45 am to 4:00 pm today. The alert was issued for this area as winds are expected to blow between 19 mph and 24 mph, resulting in rough seas.
Forecasting the weather for the next 24 hours, the Met Office stated that some islands may experience showers and thunderstorms. Winds are expected to blow from the west and northwest at speeds between 13 mph and 23 mph. The Met Office also noted that winds may gust up to 40 mph during squalls.
While rough seas are predicted for today, wave heights are estimated to be between 4 and 7 feet.
Due to the bad weather, the Met Office has urged everyone to remain cautious of the weather conditions.
