White Alert Issued for Most of the Maldives Due to Strong Winds and Rough Seas

The Maldives Meteorological Service (Met Office) has issued a White Alert for a large part of the country due to worsening weather conditions.

At 09:00 tonight, the Met Office issued two White Alerts. Accordingly, an alert has been issued from B. Atoll to Addu City until 03:00 am. During this period, the Met Office predicts winds between 19 mph and 24 mph, along with rough seas in these atolls.

A White Alert has also been issued for Sh., N., and R. atolls from 09:00 tonight until 02:00 am. Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected in these atolls during the alert period. Additionally, winds are expected to gust up to 45 mph during showers.

The Met Office stated that the weather will remain poor across all regions of the Maldives for the next two days. Rain and thunderstorms are expected in the northern atolls, while strong winds and rain are predicted for the southern and central atolls. Therefore, the National Meteorological Service has urged everyone, especially seafarers, to be cautious of the weather.
