The National Meteorological Service has issued a white alert for a large area of the Maldives, forecasting rough seas.
The Met Office issued the white alert at 07:00 tonight, covering the area from HA Atoll to V Atoll. Winds are expected to blow between 19 and 24 miles per hour in the alert areas, and seas are expected to be rough. The alert will expire at 01:00 midnight.
According to the Met Office, the southwest monsoon will intensify over the Maldives region during this period. Therefore, over the next three days, winds are generally expected to be strong, seas rough, and rain is expected across the Maldives. Winds are expected to blow generally between 13 and 23 miles per hour. Additionally, winds may gust up to 45 miles per hour during showers, and seas are expected to be rough.
Due to the anticipated bad weather, the Met Office has appealed to seafarers to remain cautious of the weather conditions.
