A white alert has been issued for a large area of the Maldives, forecasting strong winds and rough seas.
The National Meteorological Service issued the white alert from B. Atoll to Addu City. The white alert, effective from 09:30 am to 03:30 pm for these atolls, states that winds are expected to blow at speeds between 19 and 24 miles per hour in this region. It is also forecast that winds will gust up to 40 miles per hour during showers, resulting in rough seas.
According to the weather forecast published by the National Meteorological Service for the next 24 hours, rain and thunderstorms are expected across various parts of the Maldives, with heavy rainfall likely in some islands. Winds are forecast to blow from the west and northwest at speeds between 15 and 25 miles per hour. Additionally, winds may gust between 45 and 50 miles per hour during showers.
The Met Office stated that the seas will be rough, with wave heights expected to reach 5 to 8 feet. The National Meteorological Service also noted that tidal swells are possible during high tide.
Due to the worsening weather conditions, the National Meteorological Service has urged everyone to remain cautious of the weather.
