A white alert has been issued for a large area of the Maldives, forecasting rough seas.
The National Meteorological Center issued the white alert from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm, covering from HA Atoll to V Atoll. The Met Office forecasts winds of 19 to 24 mph and rough seas in the alert area.
The Met Office stated that wave surges are possible in some islands during high tide. Therefore, the Met Office has appealed to everyone, especially seafarers, to be cautious of the weather.
Forecasting the weather for the next 24 hours, the Met Office said that showers will affect various parts of the Maldives, and thunderstorms are also possible. Winds are expected to blow from the southwest and west at speeds between 15 and 25 mph. The Met Office also stated that winds may gust up to approximately 45 mph during squalls. Seas will be rough across all areas today, with wave heights of 5-8 feet, according to the Met Office.
