A white alert has been issued for a large area of the Maldives due to forecasts of strong winds and rough seas.
The National Meteorological Centre issued the white alert from HA Atoll to M Atoll. The alert is effective for these atolls from 01:00 PM to 07:00 PM tonight, with winds expected to blow at speeds between 19 mph and 24 mph. It is also predicted that winds will gust up to 40 mph during showers, resulting in rough seas.
According to the weather forecast published by the National Meteorological Centre for the next 24 hours, rain and thunderstorms are expected across various parts of the Maldives, with heavy rainfall likely in some islands. Winds are forecast to blow from the west and southwest at speeds between 10 mph and 20 mph. Additionally, winds may gust up to 35 mph during showers.
The MET Office predicts that seas will be moderately rough, becoming rougher during showers, with wave heights expected to be between 3 to 6 feet.
