The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has issued a White Alert for a large area, forecasting strong winds.
The MET Office issued the White Alert at 02:45 pm, from HA. to K. Atoll, forecasting heavy rain and thunderstorms. It also predicted strong winds of 40 mph during squalls in these atolls. The alert is effective until 08:00 pm tonight.
Forecasting the weather until 10:00 am tomorrow morning, the MET Office stated that rain and thunderstorms are expected across various parts of the Maldives, with heavy rainfall likely in some islands. Winds are expected to blow from the north and northeast at speeds between 05 to 15 mph. However, winds may gust up to approximately 40 mph during squalls.
The MET Office stated that despite the rain, seas will be generally slight and become moderately rough during squalls. Wave heights are estimated to be between 2 to 5 feet.
Due to the bad weather, the MET Office has advised everyone to be cautious of the weather.
