A White Alert has been issued for a large area of the Maldives due to forecasted strong winds and rough seas during squalls.
The Maldives Meteorological Service issued the White Alert from 01:00 midnight to 07:00 tomorrow morning for the area between HA. Atoll and Th. Atoll. During the alert period, winds are expected to blow between 19 mph and 24 mph in the atolls of this region. Additionally, winds may gust up to approximately 40 mph during squalls, and seas are expected to be rough.
Forecasting the weather in the Maldives, the Maldives Meteorological Service stated that the Southwest Monsoon has intensified, and it is expected to rain across various parts of the Maldives, with heavy rain and thunderstorms in some islands, strong winds during squalls, and rough seas. Therefore, the authority has urged all parties to be cautious of the weather.
The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has urged seafarers to pay attention to the weather. In the MNDF's appeal, they advised against making any sea journeys other than essential ones, and for those who must travel to pay special attention to the weather. Furthermore, they urged people not to travel at night, to postpone journeys until the weather improves if conditions are unfavorable, and to avoid traveling when the Maldives Meteorological Service has issued a Yellow or Orange Alert.
