A White Alert has been issued for a large area of the Maldives, anticipating strong winds and rough seas.
The National Meteorological Service issued the White Alert from K Atoll to Addu City. The alert, effective from 09:30 in the morning to 15:30 in the afternoon for these atolls, states that winds are expected to blow at speeds between 19 to 24 miles per hour in this region. It is also forecasted that winds may gust up to 40 miles per hour during showers, resulting in rough seas.
According to the weather forecast published by the National Meteorological Service for the next 24 hours, rain and thunderstorms are expected across various parts of the Maldives, with heavy rainfall likely in some islands. Winds are expected to blow from the west and northwest at speeds between 15 to 25 miles per hour. Additionally, winds may gust up to approximately 45 miles per hour during showers.
The Met Office also stated that seas will be rough, with wave heights expected to reach 5 to 8 feet.
Due to the worsening weather conditions, the National Meteorological Service has urged everyone to be cautious of the weather.
