White Alert issued for a large area due to forecasted strong winds and rough seas

A White Alert has been issued for a large part of the Maldives due to forecasted strong winds and rough seas.

The National Meteorological Service issued the White Alert from HA. Atoll to V. Atoll. The alert, effective from 02:00 PM to 08:00 PM tonight, states that winds are expected to blow between 19 mph and 24 mph in these atolls, resulting in rough seas.

With the Southwest Monsoon (Hulhangu) now active across the entire Maldives, its effects are most strongly felt in the northern atolls. The Met Office stated that scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected in various areas today.

As rough seas are forecasted, the Met Office has urged seafarers to be cautious of the weather.
