White alert issued for a large area due to bad weather

The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has issued a white alert for a large part of the country, forecasting heavy rain and thunderstorms.

The white alert is effective from 10:15 am to 4:00 pm for the area between N Atoll and L Atoll. During the alert period, these atolls are expected to experience heavy rain and thunderstorms, with wind gusts up to 40 miles per hour during showers.

Forecasting the weather for the next 24 hours, the MET office stated that rain is expected in various areas, with heavy rain and thunderstorms likely in some islands. Furthermore, winds are expected to blow from the east and northeast at speeds between 10 to 20 miles per hour, with gusts potentially reaching up to 40 miles per hour during showers.

According to the MET office's forecast, seas will be moderately rough and become rough during showers. Wave heights are estimated to be between 4 to 7 feet.
