White Alert Extended for Northern Atolls

The white alert issued for the northern atolls in the afternoon has been extended.

The National Meteorological Service extended the alert, which was originally issued for the northern atolls at 03:30 pm and set to expire at 09:30 pm tonight, until 03:30 am tonight.

The white alert states that winds will blow at speeds between 19 and 24 miles per hour, and seas will be rough in the northern atolls.

The National Meteorological Service said that in the coming days, some northern atolls are expected to experience strong winds, rough seas, and tidal swells. It also forecast rain and thunderstorms for some northern islands.

While the Southwest Monsoon began in the southern atolls on the 7th of this month, it has now commenced across the entire Maldives. The Southwest Monsoon began in the northern atolls on the 21st of this month.
