Weather worsens, White Alert issued for a large area

A White Alert has been issued for a large part of the Maldives, with heavy rain and thunderstorms expected.

The Maldives Meteorological Service issued the White Alert from K. Atoll to Addu City. The weather alert is effective from 12:30 PM to 6:30 PM.

Forecasting the weather for the next 24 hours, the National Meteorological Service stated that rain and thunderstorms are likely in various areas. Winds are expected to blow from the northeast and east at speeds between 05 and 15 miles per hour.

Despite the rain and strong winds, seas are expected to be generally slight. Wave heights will be between 2 to 4 feet.
