Weather: White Alert issued for Northern and Central atolls

The Maldives Meteorological Service has issued a White Alert for the northern and central atolls.

The Met Office issued the White Alert from HA. Atoll to L. Atoll, effective from 00:30 to 06:30. The Met Office stated that heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected in these atolls during the alert period.

Forecasting the weather until 10:00 tomorrow morning, the National Meteorological Service stated that scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected, with heavy rainfall likely in some islands tonight.

Winds are expected to blow from the southwest and west at 5 to 15 miles per hour. Winds may gust up to approximately 30 miles per hour during showers.

Seas are expected to be slight, becoming moderately rough during showers, with wave heights estimated at 2 to 5 feet.
