Weather: White alert issued for a large area due to expected strong winds

The National Meteorological Service has issued a white alert from Lh. Atoll to F. Atoll due to expected strong winds.

The white alert was issued for these atolls from 09:30 to 15:30, forecasting strong winds of up to 35 mph during gusts. Heavy rain and thunderstorms are also expected in these atolls.

Forecasting the weather until 06:00 pm, the National Meteorological Service stated that rain is expected in various parts of northern and central Maldives, with thunderstorms likely in some islands. Additionally, some southern islands are expected to experience showers.

Winds are forecast to blow from the west and northwest at speeds between 8 and 18 mph. The agency also stated that winds may gust up to approximately 35 mph during showers.

Seas will be moderately rough across all parts of the Maldives today. The Met Office stated that seas will be rough during gusts, with wave heights expected to be between 3-6 feet.
