Warning issued as Mamunagau Resort seaplane platform drifts at sea

The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has urged travelers to be cautious as a seaplane platform moored in the lagoon of R. Mamunagau Resort has broken off and is drifting at sea.

MNDF stated that the platform is expected to drift towards the Kaashidhoo channel. Therefore, travelers navigating through this area are urged to pay attention to this. MNDF has also requested those traveling at night to exercise special caution.

As the southwest monsoon intensifies over the Maldives region during this period, the National Meteorological Centre has forecast bad weather, rain across the country, and rough seas with strong winds during squalls. Consequently, MNDF has also urged seafarers to be attentive to the weather. In this regard, MNDF has advised against making any non-essential sea journeys, and for those who must travel, to pay special attention to the weather. Furthermore, they have urged people to avoid traveling at night, to postpone journeys until the weather improves if conditions are unfavorable, and to refrain from traveling when the National Meteorological Centre has issued a Yellow or Orange alert.

Due to the bad weather, a White alert is currently in effect from HA. Atoll to Th. Atoll. The alert, issued until 15:30 this afternoon, states that winds will blow at speeds between 19 to 24 miles per hour in these atolls, with gusts up to 40 miles per hour during squalls. The seas are also expected to be rough.
