The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has urged vessels travelling in the area to exercise caution as debris from the fishing vessel that caught fire and sank today is drifting at sea.
The yellowfin tuna fishing vessel named "Fresh From The Sea" caught fire and sank while travelling near K. Dhoonidhoo this afternoon. There were 15 people on board when the fire incident occurred. Five of them received treatment for injuries. They are 2 Maldivians and 3 foreigners.
As some items from the sunken vessel are drifting 0.38 nautical miles northwest of K. Dhoonidhoo, the MNDF has appealed to travellers to pay attention. The MNDF specifically requested special attention to this matter if travelling through this area at night. The MNDF stated that the debris is estimated to be drifting southwards from the area where the vessel sank in the incident.
