Want to learn how to breed groupers?

The Ministry of Fisheries is preparing to start a course designed to teach the skills of breeding and farming groupers to interested individuals.

Under the Ministry of Fisheries' Marine Hatchery Skills Development Programme, the basic mariculture course planned for this year will teach skills in breeding and farming groupers in sea cages, live feed production, clownfish breeding and rearing, and pearl oyster farming.

Those who wish to participate in this course, scheduled to run from 26 April to 8 May, must submit the designated application form along with a copy of their ID card to the Maldives Marine Research Institute before 14:00 on 15 April 2025. Forms can also be emailed to info@mmri.gov.mv.

The course has slots for 15 participants. Therefore, if more than 15 applications are submitted, participants will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis, the Ministry said. Since the 14-day course will be conducted in K. Maniyafushi, participants will also be accommodated in K. Maniyafushi for the duration of the course. Furthermore, the Marine Research Institute will arrange travel between Male' and Maniyafushi for the purpose of the course, as well as accommodation and food for the participants.
