The AA. Feridhoo Island Council has ordered the relocation of vessels moored at the western seawall of the island's harbour to another area.
In an announcement published yesterday regarding the matter, the Feridhoo Council stated that as the practical work of the island's harbour expansion project is currently underway, a large portion of the blocks on the current western seawall will need to be removed in the near future to connect the newly expanded section to the existing harbour. Therefore, the council has instructed that vessels currently moored at the western seawall be moved to another safe location in a manner that does not obstruct the harbour construction work.
The announcement further noted that while the harbour expansion work is ongoing, it is likely that harbour users, vessel operators, and the general public will face various difficulties in embarking, disembarking, and other related activities. The council requested all citizens to be patient and provide their full cooperation and assistance to the council and the project contractor while this developmental project is being executed.
The Feridhoo harbour upgrade project was awarded to MTCC on January 16 last year, to be completed within one year. The project was awarded to MTCC for MVR 50.8 million. Under this project, the scope of work includes dredging the harbour, dredging the new harbour basin, deepening the channel, constructing a breakwater, constructing a sand-filled breakwater, installing a revetment, as well as installing a scouring apron, mooring rings, streetlights, and paving.
